AHMEDABAD: It takes courage to have a dream of becoming a doctor when you have no financial and family support. But Kajal Chunara has fought all odds and has taken the first step towards fulfilling her dream by passing SSc board exams with 95.48 percentile.
Kajal's mother Baluben works as maidservant in Ramol to support her brightdaughter's studies.

Her father Prabhudas Chunara, who was a factory worker, passed away 16 years ago due to illness. Kajal's 19 year old brother Ashwin is mentally disabled since birth and is unable to speak. Against all odds and in a limited income of Rs 4,000-4,500 per month, Baluben nourished Kajal's dream of pursuing MBBS.
Kajal's mother Baluben is illiterate. She says, "After my husband's death, Kajal is my only ray of hope. She was bright in the studies since very beginning. Her teachers always advised me to let her study further. I just wish she can pursue her dreams and support our family also."
Besides studying, Kajal also have to contribute in the household works when her mother is away for work. Kajal Chunara with sparkle in her eyes says, "Right from my childhood, I had great interest in studies. My mother is my strength and inspiration to study further. I want to become a doctor so that I can cure my brother and make my mother feel proud."
Kajal's uncle Rajubhai Chunara, who is a rickshaw driver, says, "I have seen Kajal working very hard. She used to get up early at 4 in the morning and used to study till late night. She often told me that she wants to see her photograph in the newspaper by scoring high in the board exams. Today, her dream has come true."
Kajal is offered yearly scholarship of Rs 300 from Gurukrupa Vidhyalaya where she studied. Her mother says, "If needed, I will borrow money from people but I will make sure that my daughter's studies are not obstructed."
